Giant Cheetah

The Giant Cheetah (Acinonyx pardinensis), which went extinct during the last Ice Age, probably looked a lot like our modern Cheetah, but was a lot bigger. It weighed up to 300 lbs, and some scientists think this extra weight meant it couldn’t run as fast as today’s Cheetahs. Others think its longer legs and bigger lungs meant it was even faster – more than 70 mph!
