Smilodon

The most famous of all the prehistoric big cats, the South American Smilodon – or Sabertoothed Tiger – could reach 1100 lbs when fully grown. Its size meant it wasn’t as quick or agile as modern big cats, but it was incredibly powerful, with fangs that could be up to a foot long. Smilodon was around until about 10,000 years ago, which means it almost definitely encountered – and maybe even hunted – humans.
