In incredible footage captured in Sweden, a brown bear attacks an injured moose on the side of the road. It is unclear who or what hurt the moose beforehand.

Caught on camera by Mats Karlsson on his way to work, he first saw something dark on the side of the road. As he got closer, he saw it was a moose lying down with a bear next to it.

“The bear was a little disturbed by our presence and walked from the moose and over to the other side of the road,” he said. “Then we backed the car up to give the bear the opportunity to come back to the moose and finish what he started.”

While catching this type of encounter is pretty rare, bears are not particularly strangers to eating moose. However, they typically attack and eat moose or caribou calves, not adults. Researchers have found that moose and caribou calves make up about half of a bear’s diet. But if a brown bear does succeed in taking an adult moose down, they would spend a couple of days eating the moose, as opposed to just a few hours eating a calf.

Brown bears are no strangers to big meals. Weighing in at an average of 700 pounds, brown bears can eat up to 90 pounds a day.
