This Is Why You Don’t Beat Your Chest in Front of Gorillas

We shouldn’t have to tell you not to mock a gorilla. This video shows why…

Gorillas have a reputation for being quite dangerous. In books like Tarzan and movies like King Kong, giant, rampaging gorillas can display a soft, gentle side. Yet, they are not to be underestimated, especially not the massive silverback males.

Silverback males can grow up to 5 feet 11 inches (1.8 meters) tall and weigh up to 510 pounds (230 kilograms).

They are truly massive primates, and you really do NOT want to piss them off.

Behind the safety of glass at a zoo, a little girl discovers exactly why you should never, ever taunt a gorilla.

Gorilla breaks glass at zoo

Smashing!

The girl’s actions are innocent enough. She doesn’t tap on the glass or make any noise.

Instead, she beats on her chest, hoping to communicate with the bored-looking gorillas.

But, as soon as she does, her brother/friend says, “Don’t do that; you’ll make him mad”, and lo and behold, the gorilla does.

Charging at the glass at full speed, the furious silverback male jumps at her and cracks the glass separating the humans from his enclosure.

Considering the glass’s thickness, that gorillas exerted a LOT of force. Imagine if that glass had been flesh or bone.

These apes are truly powerful, and they could absolutely destroy a human.

Another gorilla in a zoo gained a lot of attention a few years ago, with Harambe the gorilla shot dead as a result of a child falling into his zoo enclosure. Here is a timely reminder as to what a gorilla is capable of when angry — if breaking reinforced zoo glass is this easy, what could Harambe have done if spooked by the guests?
