This is just another reminder that mother nature is fierce and sometimes the predator becomes the prey. In general, hawks eat a wide variety of food, including snakes, lizards, fish, mice, rabbits, squirrels and other small birds. But it is questionable whether or not this hawk will want to try to hunt down another snake again.
This amazing sighting was recently shared to Facebook. In some amazing photos, we see a western rat snake wrapped around a giant red-tailed hawk, discovered by students in Texas.
“After close inspection, both animals were still alive. One let go of the other (not sure which one let go first!), and the hawk flew off and the snake slithered away. What an experience!”
In a similar sighting from a few years ago, a talented snake turned the tables on a hawk after nearly becoming dinner, somewhere in Brazil.
The snake takes revenge by tightly wrapping itself several times around the hawk’s neck.
The video, shot in Minas Gerais, was recorded by a group of tourists who observed the interaction in passing. In a display of empathy, one of the observers intervened, reaching out and poking the snake with a stick.

The snake eventually releases its prey and quickly slithers away into the protection of the nearby forested grove. Perhaps it realized it had bitten off more a bit more than it could chew?
The hawk is relinquished from the struggle seemingly unharmed. It immediately shakes itself off and flies away, far from the ground or any other snake.
