Lioness With Cubs Severely Injured By Buffalo
A lioness that had recently given birth to a litter of cubs was attacked by a buffalo bull and ended up with a gaping wound in her side as a result.
The veterinary team at David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust rushed to her side to operate in the field. Luckily, the team was able to patch her up and administer long-acting antibiotics, which saved both her and the lives of her cubs. Click here for the full video.

Elephant Calf Trapped In Snare And Speared
This sweet calf named “Simotua” was orphaned when his mother was poached; sometime thereafter, he accidently stepped into a snare and was speared in the head by those same poachers.
Thankfully, a local found Simotua and immediately called the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to come to his rescue. The mobile Veterinary team was able to get him quickly to the center to begin a lengthy treatment. Click here for the full video.

Whale Shark Tangled In Discarded Rope
A whale shark had somehow become entangled in a rope from a commercial fishing vessel and had unfortunately been suffering with it for an extended period of time. We know this because of the scarring patterns left on his back.

Rhino Trapped In Mud
This black rhinoceros became lodged in the mud as he searched for water. A rain shortage had caused the watering holes to dry up, leaving a huge mess of thick mud.
The solution? Dig him out with construction equipment! The rhino was eventually freed and appeared to be unharmed. Click here for the full video.

Baby Orangutan Left For Dead In Cardboard Box
A baby orangutan was orphaned as a result of the pet trade, and then left for dead in a dirty cardboard box in Borneo. Experts described him as lifeless and resembling a mummy at the time of rescue. He was severely malnourished and had a serious cage of sarcoptic mange, a contagious skin disease.
He was taken to International Animal Rescue (IAR) for treatment and continues to recover. See his incredible progress so far:

Sea Turtle With Straw Stuck Inside Nose
Scientists were collecting data on sea turtle mating off the coast of Costa Rica when they noticed something peculiar inside this olive ridley sea turtle’s nose. At first, they thought it might be a parasitic worm; once they removed a piece of it, however, they realized that it was actually a plastic straw.
The passageways for breathing and food are connected in sea turtles, so it’s likely that the straw was accidently ingested and became lodged in the nasal passage as she was feeding. We can only imagine how uncomfortable that would have been. Click here for the full video.
You can protect marine animals all over the planet by simply limiting your use of plastic. This is certainly a reminder to skip the straw at your next cafe or restaurant outing.

Polar Bear Cub Trapped In A Snare
This heartbreaking footage shows a 4-month-old polar bear cub trapped in a snare and his helpless mother watching nearby.
The cub’s curiosity got the best of him when a trap meant for a fox snapped on his paw. He must have had luck on his side that day, though, because a team of Russian scientists were nearby and able to come to his rescue.
