Towering above the trees of the savannah and constantly snacking, giraffes often appear unfazed by life around them — as few predators pose a threat to these impossibly tall animals. But a newborn giraffe is vulnerable to an attack from predators, and it is up to the mother giraffe to protect her young.
In the clip below, we see a young giraffe being attacked by lions, when suddenly an adult giraffe steps in to scare off the felines.

As you will see in the full video below, it was NOT a happy ending for the giraffes. The lions were eventually able to capture the injured newborn, despite the best efforts of the mother giraffe to save her calf.
In South Africa’s Kruger National Park, lions regularly feed on giraffes for dinner.
