Amazing footage showing an intensely close interaction between a massive Great White Shark and a cage diver.
While shark cage diving, our cage was attacked by an 11.5 foot Great White shark. The round buoy attached to the side of the cage was bent in half. Some of the lining of the outside blue barrier bar was bitten through as well. “It was quite the up close and personal experience!” said Hillary Rae, who uploaded the video.
“The shark was even closer than he appears,” Rae wrote. “I apologize for the shakiness….. and my friend’s screaming.”
The footage was taken while volunteering at Cango Wildlife Ranch. The video was shot with a GoPro Hero 4 wide angle.
Of all shark species, the great white shark is responsible for by far the largest number of recorded shark attacks on humans, with 272 documented unprovoked attacks on humans in which the great white shark was identified as of 2012…
While great white sharks have killed humans in at least 74 documented unprovoked attacks in which the species was identified, they typically do not target them: for example, in the Mediterranean Sea there have been 31 confirmed attacks against humans in the last two centuries, most of which were non-fatal.
Many of the incidents seemed to be “test-bites”. Great white sharks also test-bite buoys, flotsam, and other unfamiliar objects, and they might grab a human or a surfboard to identify what it is.”[Source]
