We couldn’t make this stuff up.

According to a report in a local paper in Daugavpils, Latvia, a seemingly irate beaver repeatedly attacked a man as he walked through the city late one evening.

Sergei, the attack victim, reported that the beaver came out of the shadows and bit his leg. He tried to fight off the beaver, but was knocked down and continuously bitten as he tried to stand back up.

Sergei called 911 and pleaded with the operator to believe that he was in fact being attacked by an angry beaver. The operator hung up on him, thinking it was a joke, and he was left to his own devices.

Sergei was finally able get a hold of his friend, who after much convincing came to his rescue. However, to make matters worse, his friend was pulled over for speeding on the way over. The friend had to then convince the cop that he was on the way to rescue his friend from an alleged beaver attack, and was trying to reach him quickly.

The cop and the friend eventually found Sergei, who was indeed being “held hostage” by an enraged beaver. Fifteen stitches later, Sergei is doing fine — and the beaver, being protected in Latvia, is still at large.

The Director of the Daugavpils Zoo told reporters that beavers can become very aggressive in the spring, as they are searching for new territory.

You don’t hear a story like that every day.
