Incredible footage captures the moment a huge bald eagle casually makes its way across a pebbled beach while other much smaller birds clear the way for the raptor to enjoy its meal.
This badass bald eagle was spotted strolling the beach at Anchor Point on the Cook Inlet and Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. The incredible moment was caught on camera by Timm Martin.
While we’re used to majestic scenes of eagles flying through the air, eagles on the ground typically walk and sometimes hop. They tend to move pretty slow on the ground due to their heavier physique, leaving pronounced trails in the sand or silt of major rivers.
The quintessential North American bird, bald eagles can be found from the Mexican border through the United States to Canada.
Like all raptors, eagles use their talons to attack and kill their prey. They use their muscular legs to crush a variety of animals with an estimated force of at least 400 pounds per square inch per talon. Eagles primarily eat fish but will eat many other things such as waterfowl and small mammals like squirrels, prairie dogs, raccoons, and rabbits. Ever the opportunistic eater, eagles don’t always hunt for live prey. They will also scavenge or steal from other animals as we see in this video.
Of course, bald eagles can do a lot more than just walk. Watch the video below to see this amazing bird doing what it does best: catching salmon out of the water in full flight.
