Fisherman Finds 75-pound Pearl Worth $100 Million, Keeps It Under His Bed For A Decade

A fisherman in the Philippines found a giant pearl worth an estimated $100 million nearly a decade ago… and he’s been keeping it under his bed for good luck.

In perhaps the luckiest find of all time, the fisherman reported that he located the rare find when his ship’s anchor got stuck on a giant clam off the coast of Palawan Island. He pulled the clam aboard and found the monster 75-pound pearl inside.

What are the chances?

The pearl is 1 foot wide and 2.2 feet in length, and is the largest on record. It was produced by the world’s largest bivalve, Tridacna gigas.

He didn’t realize how valuable the gem was, and thought it would best be served as a good luck charm under his bed. After 10 years, he ended up moving and gave the pearl to his aunt. The aunt, a tourism officer, realized it was something special — and she chose to gift it to the local Palawan government as a way to bring tourists to the area.

The pearl is now on display in the New Green City Hall in Puerto Princesa in the western Philippines.
