A spearfishing pole was all that stood between the man and the massive great white shark.
A diver off the coast of California near Santa Barbara had the scare of his life when he came face-to-face with a large, curious great white shark.
Tyler McQuillen, 22, was swimming when he felt a sudden jerk. He saw one of his flippers float past him as he came to terms with what had just happened: he had been bitten by a large shark.

In the video, we see the moment when McQuillen becomes disoriented and looks at his foot – and it is this moment when the great white shark comes into view.
He manages to fend off the shark with his speargun as he swims away to safety.
McQuillen suffered small marks on his toes but allegedly is looking forward to getting back in the ocean as soon as he can.
This isn’t the first we’ve seen amazing footage of a run-in between a curious shark and a spearfisher. Last year we saw the moment when a spearfisher was approached by a curious shark.
