Meanwhile, in Florida…
When some college students from the University of Florida were enjoying lunch by a lake, an unexpected guest appeared: a hungry American Alligator. The gator walked onto the picnic blanket and began destructively inspecting their meal.
This is not a unique occurrence. There are 1.3 million alligators in Florida and as humans further encroach on their habitats, interactions between gators and humans increase. The unfazed college students gleefully began photographing the intruding reptile without much fear, except for at the end of the clip when we hear the onlookers warning to be cautious as the cameraman attempts to retrieve an iPhone.
“Typically, juveniles are not large enough to be a threat even to small pets,” the Florida Fish and Wildlife stated. “The mere presence of a small alligator is not cause for concern. When fed, alligators can overcome their natural wariness and learn to associate people with food. When this happens, some of these alligators have to be removed and killed.”
