Stretching for over 1,400 miles (2,300 kilometers) over an area of approximately 133,000 square miles (344,400 square kilometers), the Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world and the largest single structure made by living organisms. In fact, it is so massive that you can see it from space! But that’s merely scratching, er…splashing the surface.

Among this immense empire of coral, thousands of species go about their daily business. From sea turtles to sharks to clownfish, the Great Barrier Reef supports thousands of diverse and fascinating species. Join us on a digital dive as we plunge beneath the turquoise waters of the Coral Sea. All these photos were taken on site on the Great Barrier Reef by our Roaring Earth wildlife photographer, Teddy Fotiou.
